MYL Mission Statement

MYL Mission Statement

Madison Youth Lacrosse's primary purpose is to teach and promote the game of lacrosse in a fun, safe and sportsmanlike environment. As a youth league, MYL is dedicated to the skill development of lacrosse players and teaches a game of speed, position and finesse rather than physical intimidation or promoting a team's winning record. Along with learning lacrosse, MYL strives to instill the values of sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, fair play and a love of the sport of lacrosse for teammates, coaches and officials; in essence we "Honor the Game". MYL believes that sportsmanship is a way of life and will conduct all activities in a manner that will set an example of good sportsmanship and friendly competition for our young players. Madison Youth Lacrosse is an active member of the Positive Coaching Alliance, a nationwide organization dedicated to promoting a positive culture in youth sports so that every young athlete can have a positive, character-building experience.

MYL is designed to help each player reach their potential as a lacrosse player.  Mastery of the skills of the game is of the utmost importance at all levels and MYL places emphasis on skill development in all grades, K-8.  As a player moves through the MYL program they will be taught the game of lacrosse in a fun and supportive environment. The program curriculum has been designed to maximize the skill development of players at each respective level in a progressive fashion. We endeavor to create a continuity of experience between coaches and age groups. The focus of all of our teams is to encourage growth and development.

UNIFORMS

All players in grades 3-8 will be required to wear a uniform.  If you are new to travel lacrosse, you will be required to purchase a new uniform for the season.  Uniform cost is approximately $75.00 per player and includes a reversible jersey and skort/shorts.  In addition, practice pinnies can be purchased for approximately $20.00 and are required. Pinnies for grades 1-2 will be provided.

To further clarify, if you are new to MYL and will be playing in grades 3-8, you will need to purchase a new uniform.  If you played last year and still have your practice pinnie and your uniform still fits, you do not need to purchase a new pinnie or uniform (but you can if you want to).

LINK TO PURCHASE UNIFORMS WILL BE ADDED AND COMMUNICATED SHORTLY.

USA LACROSSE

For insurance purposes, all Madison Youth Lacrosse players are required to be members of USA Lacrosse.  USA Lacrosse membership is $35 per player. Your registration must be active through the end of our season.   You will be directed to the US lacrosse website to renew or purchase your membership prior to completing your Madison Youth Lacrosse registration.

AGE SEGMENTATION

USA Lacrosse has specified age guidelines to create an atmosphere of fair play and development.  CONNY (CT - NY Youth Lacrosse) has adopted those guidelines for grades 3-8 and as a member of CONNY, Madison Youth Lacrosse must follow these guidelines.

TRAVEL COMMITMENT (Grades 3-8)

Travel is a part of Madison Youth Lacrosse and all players registered must be prepared to make lacrosse their priority sport for the Spring season. We expect and encourage all of our athletes to play other sports during the rest of the year, as it both increases athletic development and, more importantly, adds to players’ enthusiasm for all of the sports they play.

COMMUNICATION

We welcome communication from parents and encourage all to look for ways to volunteer throughout the season. In order to encourage players to develop as young individuals, players in 5-8 should communicate directly with their coaches. This includes concerns or questions regarding playing time, positions, team placement and suggestions for improvement/feedback.  An exception is for health issues such as allergies, asthma, ADD/ADHD, diabetes, etc., which parents should communicate directly with coaches if they feel the need. All health issues will be kept strictly confidential. If parents have issues with a coach, they should discuss those with an MYL board member after observing a 24 hour waiting period. Please remember that all of our coaches are volunteers, and respect their time and dedication to creating a fun, learning experience for all of our players.
